What is Silicone Rubber (LSR) Molding?

Silicone molding is a manufacturing process that shapes liquid or raw silicone rubber into solid, finished parts using molds. The process involves injecting or pressing silicone into a heated mold cavity, where it cures (vulcanizes) through a chemical reaction, transforming from a pliable liquid or paste into a durable, heat-resistant, flexible rubber part.

Silicone molding is like plastic injection molding, but for rubber. RPD provide both liquid silicone Injection Molding (LSR) & Compression Molding (HCR) .

What’s advantages of  Silicone Rubber Molding?

Consistent Quality & High Repeatability

Tooling produces identical parts every cycle, part #1 and part #1,000,000 are nearly the same. This minimizes scrap, reduces rejects, and ensures reliable quality for high-volume production.

Very High Production Speed

Tooling enables extremely fast cycle times: injection molding in seconds, Without tooling, each part would take hours (machining, manual fabrication).

Low Cost when High Volume

High upfront tooling cost is spread across tens of thousands to millions of parts. The more you produce, the cheaper each part becomes pennies at very high volume.

Minimal Material Waste

Tooling-based processes (injection molding, die casting, stamping) achieve 85–99% material utilization, far better than CNC machining. Less scrap means lower material cost plus better sustainability.

Complex Geometries & Fine Details

Tooling produces intricate shapes, thin walls, undercuts, threads, and surface textures that would be impossible or extremely expensive to machine individually. All features are built into the mold or die.

Automated Operation & Wide Material Range

It works seamlessly with robotic part handling and inspection systems, reducing labor costs and enabling lights-out manufacturing. Material versatility, works with both plastic and metal, even composite materials.

Injection Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) Molding Capabilities to Mass Production

Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) Injection Molding

Liquid silicone is automatically mixed and injected into a heated mold cavity under pressure. Cures in seconds.

Best for: Ideal for high-volume, high-precision, complex micro parts — such as medical catheter tips and precision seals.

Silicone Compression Molding (HCR)

A pre-measured solid silicone blank is placed into an open heated mold. The mold closes and presses the material into shape while curing.

Best for: Suitable for low-to-medium volume, large-sized, thick-walled products, such as complex protective gear and large gaskets.

 Silicone Rubber  Molding Material

Silicone rubber offers exceptional performance across many dimensions:

Heat resistance – stable at 150°C; withstands over 10,000 hours at 200°C

Cold resistance – remains elastic down to -70°C or even -100°C

Low compression set – maintains shape over -60°C to 250°C

Weather & UV resistance – virtually unchanged after prolonged UV exposure

Electrical insulation – stable insulating properties over a wide temperature range

Gas permeability – superior permeability compared to organic rubber and plastics

Flame retardancy – meets UL94 V-0, with almost no smoke or toxic gases
